Greetings MCSCA Members and readers’ thank you for the warm welcome I have received as the new MCSCA Manager.

Who am I?
I came to Australia at a young age of two, as a refugee from East Africa. I have spent the first 22 years of my life in Sydney and the last 5 years, I have been lucky to call this charming town Mparntwe Alice Springs my home.
I live here with my husband and two young children. I have worked and volunteered in the migrant and refugee sector for 12 years. I have a Bachelor degree in Social Work and currently completing my Masters in Community and Humanitarianism with a focus on Resettlement. Since arriving in Mparntwe Alice Springs I have been fortunate to work to empower youth who are in the care system with CREATE foundation. Also as a Social Worker at Alice Springs Hospital, ensuring that patients are connected and supported.

At a local level, I have established programs and opportunities for recently arrived migrants and refugees to connect to the local community. On a territory level, as a community member on the Minister’s Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs, it is of utter importance that the voices of Alice Springs Multicultural community is heard alongside our chair Mona. Nationally I have been appointment to the first Australian Government Refugee Advisory Panel, where I have the opportunity to ensure the experiences and voices of refugee and migrants can influence policy. Regionally I just completed my term as the chair of the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network, Working group on women, gender and diversity. Internationally I have been fortunate to be a founding member and co-chair of United Nations High Commission for Refugee, Advisory Committee on Resettlement for the last 4 years. I have been active in advocacy, policy and programming in relation to refugees and migrants at all fora’s. I have been on the board at CAWLS, Women Museum of Australia and MCSCA. I am very passionate about youth participation, gender equality and social justice. I am excited to bring all my experience and passion to MCSCA, work with you all to grow this amazing organisation.
