Our Recruitment Process

  • Prepare or update the position description.
  • Advertise the position – generally we leave the position open until it is filled rather than set a fixed closing date.
  • Shortlist to assess which applications meet the essential criteria for the job.
  • Interview shortlisted applicants.
  • Check referees.
  • Offer position to the successful applicant.
  • Prepare contract of employment for sign off.
  • All applicants are advised of the outcome.
  • The successful applicant starts on probation, according to the contract of employment.

Our Board Members

Shihab Rahman

Board Member

Shihab is a passionate educator who believes every child can learn differently! He strongly believes in the concept of learning by doing and developing and executing differentiated lesson plans for students with different abilities. Shihab is known as an innovative thinker and is always eager to learn new educational technologies and connect those technologies to instructional design and delivery. He has 18 years of educational experience, working as a teacher in India, Kuwait and Australia.

Shihab lives in Alice Springs and is the Secretary of the Alice Springs Malayalee Association Inc, which has a membership of over 600.  He is the Chapter Coordinator of the Malayalam Mission Alice Springs, an award-winning language program for South Indians living in Mparntwe Alice Springs.

Shihab joined the MCSCA Board in 2025.

Board Member

Mona has lived in Mparntwe Alice Springs for 17 years. She has raised her daughter here and built deep, lasting connections with the community.

Mona is a passionate volunteer, community leader and strong advocate for equity, inclusion and better services for all. In 2024 Mona was named ‘Chief Minister’s Volunteer of the year’.

Academically, Mona holds an MBA and Master in Economics. She has 25 years of experience in business development, tourism, policy, strategy and not for profit leadership work, including with global organisations such as the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation, GTZ the German Development Cooperation agency, and SNV International. In Alice Springs Mona has worked in business development and research at Charles Darwin University and is currently a public servant with the NT Government in research on gambling amelioration.

Mona was a founder of the Nepalese Community Alice Springs Inc and a long-term member of MCSCA.  She has been the Chair of MCSCA for 4 years and represents MCSCA on the Ministerial Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs.

Hilda Reeder

Deputy Chairperson

Hilda Reeder has lived in central Australia for over 30 years. She was born in the Philippines and made the move originally to be with her husband at the time who was working as a teacher in Papunya. 

She later moved to Alice Springs and has been actively involved in the Alice Springs Mabuhay Multicultural Association, MCSCA and the Catholic Church ever since.

Hilda took part in the first Harmony event held in Alice Springs – in the Todd Mall.  This gradually evolved into Big Day Out in Harmony which has its 26th anniversary in 2025.

Hilda’s career has included running a small business and working as a public servant in various departments of NT Government.

Hilda has been Deputy Chair of MCSCA for the last 4 years.

 

Syed Ali

Treasurer

Syed Ali migrated to Australia from Pakistan, originally living in Sydney.  He moved to Alice Springs in 2018 top work for Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation as Finance Coordinator.

Ali is actively involved in the Alice Springs Islamic Society, including a number of years as Vice President. He joined the MCSCA Board in 2024.

Hellen Webster

Board Member and Public Officer

Hellen Webster is a Clinical Educator and Mental Health Clinician at Headspace Centre in Mparntwe Alice Springs. She is the Founder of Zuri Choices, a counselling service, bringing a strong commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection. With experience across leadership, education, counselling and supervision Hellen works through a multicultural and trauma-informed lens to support individuals and communities in building resilience, relationship and belonging.

As a MCSCA board member , Hellen is passionate about promoting culturally responsive practice, collaboration and promoting access to quality mental health and wellbeing services for all.

Hellen is a past member of the MCSCA board, rejoining in 2023.  She is currently Public Officer.

Max Fonte

Board Member

Ten years ago, Max embarked on a transformative voyage to Australia in pursuit of new beginnings. This bold move led to the establishment of his thriving Yaye’s Cafe and ignited a purpose to assist fellow immigrants.

During his initial years in Australia, Max garnered valuable management experience in the hospitality sector. In 2019, he seized the opportunity to launch Yaye’s Cafe, where his welcoming hospitality and delectable Argentinian empanadas left an indelible mark.

As Yaye’s flourished, Max’s personal immigrant journey, filled with its own set of challenges, inspired him to give back. From the very outset, he actively supported fellow immigrants in securing job placements, whether within Yaye’s or other small businesses in Central Australia.

Max’s organic mission is being known within Australia’s immigrant community, transforming Yaye’s into a nexus for networking, job prospects, and mentorship. Many found their first job there.

Max, having once been a newcomer himself, achieved his dream of owning a successful Cafe. Today, he serves as an embodiment of inspiration for those embarking on fresh beginnings, underlining his unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Max joined the MCSCA Board in 2023.

Gagandeep Ralh

Board Member

Gagandeep Singh Ralh is originally from Punjab, India, and has proudly called Alice Springs home for the past 11 years. During this time, he has contributed to the disability sector and actively engaged with various local community and sports groups and associations.

Throughout his time in Mparntwe Alice Springs, Gagan has been actively involved in various multicultural community associations. He served as the acting president of the Alice Springs Indian Association, was a founding member of the Alice Tigers Cricket Club, and contributed as a committee member for the Central Australia Sikh Cultural Centre. Gagan has been a board member of the Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia for 4 years.  He has been active on the working groups for MCSCA’s annual Big Day Out in Harmony, and the annual Diwali festivities in the Todd Mall.  In 2025, Gagan was appointed as a community representative on the NT Ministerial Advisory Council for Multicultural Affairs.

 

I’ve helped organize cultural and sports events like Diwali, Cricket games and the Big Day Out in Harmony event, which bring people together to celebrate our diverse community. I also teach Bhangra (Punjab’s Folk Dance) to kids to keep our culture alive and share it with future generations.

Outside of my community work, I am passionate about fitness and the outdoors. I enjoy playing cricket, doing CrossFit, and exploring the beautiful hiking trails around Alice Springs.

I believe in the power of a multicultural Australia, where people from all walks of life can thrive together and contribute to a vibrant, diverse society.

Haloti Kailahi​

Haloti Kailahi is a Leadership and Business Consultant, recognised for his expertise in leadership, stakeholder engagement and community development.

As President of the Pacific Islands Council of Northern Territory and the Pacific Islands National Council in Australia, he fosters connections among cross-cultural communities and all levels of governments.

Committed to empowering individuals and leaders, Haloti emphasises inclusivity, diversity and collaboration, believing that mutual respect is vital for thriving communities and driving positive change for all people of all cultures.

Haloti joined the MCSCA Board in 2025.

Gunalan Sivachelvan

Board Member

Gunalan is a long term resident of Alice Springs, originally from Sri Lanka.

He is an Engineer and is Manager of Civil Projects in the NT Department of Infrastructure.

Gunalan is President of the Sri Lankan Association of Alice Springs and a long term member of the MCSCA Board.

Hellen Webster is a Clinical Educator and Mental Health Clinician at Headspace Centre in Mparntwe Alice Springs. She is the Founder of Zuri Choices, a counselling service, bringing a strong commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection. With experience across leadership, education, counselling and supervision Hellen works through a multicultural and trauma-informed lens to support individuals and communities in building resilience, relationship and belonging.

As a MCSCA board member , Hellen is passionate about promoting culturally responsive practice, collaboration and promoting access to quality mental health and wellbeing services for all.

Gagandeep Singh Ralh is originally from Punjab, India, and has proudly called Alice Springs home for the past 11 years. During this time, he has contributed to the disability sector and actively engaged with various local community and sports groups and associations.

Throughout his time in Mparntwe Alice Springs, Gagan has been actively involved in various multicultural community associations. He served as the acting president of the Alice Springs Indian Association, was a founding member of the Alice Tigers Cricket Club, and contributed as a committee member for the Central Australia Sikh Cultural Centre. Gagan has been a board member of the Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia for 4 years.  He has been active on the working groups for MCSCA’s annual Big Day Out in Harmony, and the annual Diwali festivities in the Todd Mall.  In 2025, Gagan was appointed as a community representative on the NT Ministerial Advisory Council for Multicultural Affairs.

 

I’ve helped organize cultural and sports events like Diwali, Cricket games and the Big Day Out in Harmony event, which bring people together to celebrate our diverse community. I also teach Bhangra (Punjab’s Folk Dance) to kids to keep our culture alive and share it with future generations.

Outside of my community work, I am passionate about fitness and the outdoors. I enjoy playing cricket, doing CrossFit, and exploring the beautiful hiking trails around Alice Springs.

I believe in the power of a multicultural Australia, where people from all walks of life can thrive together and contribute to a vibrant, diverse society.

Haloti Kailahi is a Leadership and Business Consultant, recognised for his expertise in leadership, stakeholder engagement and community development.

As President of the Pacific Islands Council of Northern Territory and the Pacific Islands National Council in Australia, he fosters connections among cross-cultural communities and all levels of governments.

Gunalan Sivachelvan

Gunalan is a long term resident of Alice Springs, originally from Sri Lanka.

He is an Engineer and is Manager of Civil Projects in the NT Department of Infrastructure.

Gunalan is President of the Sri Lankan Association of Alice Springs and a long term member of the MCSCA Board.

Shihab Rahman

Shihab is a passionate educator who believes every child can learn differently! He strongly believes in the concept of learning by doing and developing and executing differentiated lesson plans for students with different abilities. Shihab is known as an innovative thinker and is always eager to learn new educational technologies and connect those technologies to instructional design and delivery. He has 18 years of educational experience, working as a teacher in India, Kuwait and Australia.

Shihab lives in Alice Springs and is the Secretary of the Alice Springs Malayalee Association Inc, which has a membership of over 600.  He is the Chapter Coordinator of the Malayalam Mission Alice Springs, an award-winning language program for South Indians living in Mparntwe Alice Springs.

Shihab joined the MCSCA Board in 2025.

Mona has lived in Mparntwe Alice Springs for 17 years. She has raised her daughter here and built deep, lasting connections with the community.

Mona is a passionate volunteer, community leader and strong advocate for equity, inclusion and better services for all. In 2024 Mona was named ‘Chief Minister’s Volunteer of the year’.

Academically, Mona holds an MBA and Master in Economics. She has 25 years of experience in business development, tourism, policy, strategy and not for profit leadership work, including with global organisations such as the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation, GTZ the German Development Cooperation agency, and SNV International. In Alice Springs Mona has worked in business development and research at Charles Darwin University and is currently a public servant with the NT Government in research on gambling amelioration.

Mona was a founder of the Nepalese Community Alice Springs Inc and a long-term member of MCSCA.  She has been the Chair of MCSCA for 4 years and represents MCSCA on the Ministerial Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs.

Hilda Reeder has lived in central Australia for over 30 years. She was born in the Philippines and made the move originally to be with her husband at the time who was working as a teacher in Papunya.

Gagandeep Singh Ralh is originally from Punjab, India, and has proudly called Alice Springs home for the past 11 years. During this time, he has contributed to the disability sector and actively engaged with various local community and sports groups and associations.

Throughout his time in Mparntwe Alice Springs, Gagan has been actively involved in various multicultural community associations. He served as the acting president of the Alice Springs Indian Association, was a founding member of the Alice Tigers Cricket Club, and contributed as a committee member for the Central Australia Sikh Cultural Centre. Gagan has been a board member of the Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia for 4 years.  He has been active on the working groups for MCSCA’s annual Big Day Out in Harmony, and the annual Diwali festivities in the Todd Mall.  In 2025, Gagan was appointed as a community representative on the NT Ministerial Advisory Council for Multicultural Affairs.

 

I’ve helped organize cultural and sports events like Diwali, Cricket games and the Big Day Out in Harmony event, which bring people together to celebrate our diverse community. I also teach Bhangra (Punjab’s Folk Dance) to kids to keep our culture alive and share it with future generations.

Outside of my community work, I am passionate about fitness and the outdoors. I enjoy playing cricket, doing CrossFit, and exploring the beautiful hiking trails around Alice Springs.

I believe in the power of a multicultural Australia, where people from all walks of life can thrive together and contribute to a vibrant, diverse society.

Haloti Kailahi​

Haloti Kailahi is a Leadership and Business Consultant, recognised for his expertise in leadership, stakeholder engagement and community development.

As President of the Pacific Islands Council of Northern Territory and the Pacific Islands National Council in Australia, he fosters connections among cross-cultural communities and all levels of governments.

Committed to empowering individuals and leaders, Haloti emphasises inclusivity, diversity and collaboration, believing that mutual respect is vital for thriving communities and driving positive change for all people of all cultures.

Haloti joined the MCSCA Board in 2025.

Gunalan Sivachelvan

Board Member

Gunalan is a long term resident of Alice Springs, originally from Sri Lanka.

He is an Engineer and is Manager of Civil Projects in the NT Department of Infrastructure.

Gunalan is President of the Sri Lankan Association of Alice Springs and a long term member of the MCSCA Board.

Shihab Rahman

Board Member

Shihab is a passionate educator who believes every child can learn differently! He strongly believes in the concept of learning by doing and developing and executing differentiated lesson plans for students with different abilities. Shihab is known as an innovative thinker and is always eager to learn new educational technologies and connect those technologies to instructional design and delivery. He has 18 years of educational experience, working as a teacher in India, Kuwait and Australia.

Shihab lives in Alice Springs and is the Secretary of the Alice Springs Malayalee Association Inc, which has a membership of over 600.  He is the Chapter Coordinator of the Malayalam Mission Alice Springs, an award-winning language program for South Indians living in Mparntwe Alice Springs.

Shihab joined the MCSCA Board in 2025.

Mona has lived in Mparntwe Alice Springs for 17 years. She has raised her daughter here and built deep, lasting connections with the community.

Mona is a passionate volunteer, community leader and strong advocate for equity, inclusion and better services for all. In 2024 Mona was named ‘Chief Minister’s Volunteer of the year’.

Academically, Mona holds an MBA and Master in Economics. She has 25 years of experience in business development, tourism, policy, strategy and not for profit leadership work, including with global organisations such as the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation, GTZ the German Development Cooperation agency, and SNV International. In Alice Springs Mona has worked in business development and research at Charles Darwin University and is currently a public servant with the NT Government in research on gambling amelioration.

Mona was a founder of the Nepalese Community Alice Springs Inc and a long-term member of MCSCA.  She has been the Chair of MCSCA for 4 years and represents MCSCA on the Ministerial Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs.

Hilda Reeder

Deputy Chairperson

Hilda Reeder has lived in central Australia for over 30 years. She was born in the Philippines and made the move originally to be with her husband at the time who was working as a teacher in Papunya. 

She later moved to Alice Springs and has been actively involved in the Alice Springs Mabuhay Multicultural Association, MCSCA and the Catholic Church ever since.

Hilda took part in the first Harmony event held in Alice Springs – in the Todd Mall.  This gradually evolved into Big Day Out in Harmony which has its 26th anniversary in 2025.

Hilda’s career has included running a small business and working as a public servant in various departments of NT Government.

Hilda has been Deputy Chair of MCSCA for the last 4 years.

 

Syed Ali

Treasurer

Syed Ali migrated to Australia from Pakistan, originally living in Sydney.  He moved to Alice Springs in 2018 top work for Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation as Finance Coordinator.

Ali is actively involved in the Alice Springs Islamic Society, including a number of years as Vice President. He joined the MCSCA Board in 2024.

Hellen Webster

Board Member and Public Officer

Hellen Webster is a Clinical Educator and Mental Health Clinician at Headspace Centre in Mparntwe Alice Springs. She is the Founder of Zuri Choices, a counselling service, bringing a strong commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection. With experience across leadership, education, counselling and supervision Hellen works through a multicultural and trauma-informed lens to support individuals and communities in building resilience, relationship and belonging.

As a MCSCA board member , Hellen is passionate about promoting culturally responsive practice, collaboration and promoting access to quality mental health and wellbeing services for all.

Hellen is a past member of the MCSCA board, rejoining in 2023.  She is currently Public Officer.

Max Fonte

Board Member

Ten years ago, Max embarked on a transformative voyage to Australia in pursuit of new beginnings. This bold move led to the establishment of his thriving Yaye’s Cafe and ignited a purpose to assist fellow immigrants.

During his initial years in Australia, Max garnered valuable management experience in the hospitality sector. In 2019, he seized the opportunity to launch Yaye’s Cafe, where his welcoming hospitality and delectable Argentinian empanadas left an indelible mark.

As Yaye’s flourished, Max’s personal immigrant journey, filled with its own set of challenges, inspired him to give back. From the very outset, he actively supported fellow immigrants in securing job placements, whether within Yaye’s or other small businesses in Central Australia.

Max’s organic mission is being known within Australia’s immigrant community, transforming Yaye’s into a nexus for networking, job prospects, and mentorship. Many found their first job there.

Max, having once been a newcomer himself, achieved his dream of owning a successful Cafe. Today, he serves as an embodiment of inspiration for those embarking on fresh beginnings, underlining his unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Max joined the MCSCA Board in 2023.
